Over $350,000 Donated By International Poker Players & GGPoker To Caesars Cares Relief Fund
GGPoker adds to $257,853 raised in WSOP Online 2020 poker tournament
GGPoker today announces that $257,853 was raised by the worldwide poker community via “Event #34: Every 1 for COVID Relief”, one of the poker tournaments in its WSOP Online 2020 series. GGPoker pledged a further $96,903, resulting in a total donation of $354,756 to Caesars Cares.
The tournament attracted 2,323 participants, who each donated $111 of their buy-in to the Caesars Cares assistance fund; this fund supports Caesars Entertainment team members across the U.S. who have suffered unanticipated hardships as a result of the COVID-19 public health emergency.
“We are incredibly grateful to our partner GGPoker for their contribution to Caesars Cares,” said Ty Stewart, Executive Director of the World Series of Poker. “This donation will provide needed support to Caesars Entertainment team members experiencing unexpected setbacks as we work towards resuming operations and restoring normal business conditions. As if GGPoker’s idea to direct a portion of the buy-in from each player to Caesars Cares wasn’t generous enough, we are absolutely floored and elated by their decision to contribute nearly another $100,000 to the fund.”
“The international poker community really stepped up this time, and GGPoker was there to push the effort forward,” said GGPoker ambassador, Daniel Negreanu. “We will continue to raise funds for worthy causes in the future, and I’m grateful to be part of something that’s helping to make such a difference.”
The flagship World Series of Poker (WSOP) live poker tournament in Las Vegas was postponed due to the public health emergency. As an alternative, GGPoker is hosting an online series of WSOP events, with 54 gold bracelets to be claimed in GGPoker’s WSOP Online 2020 series. The tournaments at GGPoker mark the first time that players located outside the U.S. have been able to compete for official WSOP bracelets online.
Following the latest pledge, GGPoker and the worldwide poker community have now donated more than $600,000 in the past six months, with over $250,000 raised to fight COVID-19 via earlier GGPoker charity tournaments.
The WSOP Online 2020 series continues at GGPoker through September 6, and will be extensively covered in the media, with tournament action regularly broadcast on GGPoker.TV and Poker Central, and tournament reports published on PokerNews and elsewhere.
